United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism

Dear Delegates of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism,
Welcome to KAMUN 2026! In this committee, we’ll tackle some of the most challenging
questions about global peace and security. While these topics are complex, they offer a unique chance to show how cooperation, creativity, and resilience can emerge from global challenges.
I’m Fares Alarifi, a senior at King’s Academy, and I have the honor of serving as President of UNOCT this year. I’m excited to see how each of you will bring your perspectives and ideas to the table. Unlike reactive bodies, UNOCT focuses on prevention, long-term strategies, and building the capacity of member states to confront terrorism effectively and responsibly.
This year, we’ll focus on two key issues: the rehabilitation and reintegration of foreign terrorist fighters, and strategies to track and block terrorist financing, including via cryptocurrencies. Both require careful consideration of security, social, and humanitarian aspects.
As you prepare, read critically, debate passionately, and collaborate thoughtfully. This committees not about “winning”, it’s about developing practical solutions that reflect our shared global responsibility.
I look forward to the discussions and ideas you will bring.
Best regards,
Fares Alarifi
President, United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism
